The moment that the Taste of Dubai preparations started the whole Elia team experienced a plethora of exciting feelings immediately. The huge numbers of visitors that come to the event present a unique opportunity for Elia to showcase what is best about Greek cuisine. Taste of Dubai is one of best ways to share the story of the restaurant.
This year Chef Yiannis Baxevanis of Elia restaurant chose three dishes which reflect the core elements of the restaurant: "simple", "healthy" and "authentic".
The starter was warm carob pie (made of carob flour) stuffed with fresh greens and a zesty orange sauce. Lots of visitors wondered what is carob. Chef Baxevanis and his team took their time to explain the origin and cooking methods of the dish, and this was really a dish that impressed the crowd. Especially vegetarians, whose choice is more limited, where amazed by the flavours.
Chef Baxevanis and his team this year actively participated in Taste of Dubai with a live cooking session everyday. The students in the cooking classes rolled up their sleeves and prepared under the fun filled guidance of Chef Baxevanis, a delicious shrimp saganaki. The visitors who watched the Chef in the Theatre should now be able to surprise others with homemade seafood Yiouvetsi.
Elia restaurant had a special treat for their visitors this year. In the competition ‘Start your tasteful trip to Greece in Elia restaurant?the main prize was a three night’s stay in Athens. The competition was sponsored by Air Arabia and Holiday Inn Athens and the draw took place last Monday, 22 March 2010.
